Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Britain could become the world’s first Islamic republic to possess nuclear weapons.
According to a global news agency, Prime Minister Netanyahu said this during a podcast interview for Israeli Army Radio. For which he is being severely criticized.
Comparing the past and present Britain, the Zionist Prime Minister Netanyahu said that he does not see that pro-Israel environment in today’s Britain, but rather this country has now become the Islamic Republic of Great Britain.
To which the interviewer asked that you are only targeting Britain, while the attitude of other European countries has also changed towards Israel.
In response, the Israeli Prime Minister, instead of backing down from the statement, added that someone had said that the first Islamic republic to possess nuclear weapons would be the Islamic Republic of Great Britain.
It should be remembered that Pakistan, which is constitutionally the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and has also been the first Muslim state to possess nuclear weapons since the 1990s.
According to analysts, Netanyahu has also criticized Pakistan, which is the most important and central mediator in the Iran-US ceasefire, by calling Britain the first nuclear Islamic republic.
Netanyahu’s controversial statement comes at a time when differences between Britain and Israel are intensifying over the Gaza war, Israeli settlements and the Palestinian state.
The current British Prime Minister Andy Burnham apologized for his party’s initial response to the Gaza issue, which supported Israel, saying that the party’s position was inappropriate and needed to be improved.
He supported further pressure on the Israeli government, imposing additional sanctions on certain Israeli individuals and institutions, and a possible ban on trade related to illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied territories.
This is why Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is angry with the British government, even though other European countries are also withdrawing support for Israel and are reacting strongly to the Zionist state’s genocide in Gaza.
Knesset candidate for the Israeli opposition party Democrats, Avi Dabosch, strongly criticized Netanyahu’s statement, saying that at a time when Israel is facing unprecedented diplomatic isolation on the international stage, mocking a key ally reflects the Israeli government’s “terrible diplomatic failure.”
The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office did not immediately clarify whether Netanyahu’s statement declaring Britain an Islamic republic was the government’s official position, while the British Foreign Office also did not immediately comment.
It should be noted that US Vice President JD Vance also made a similar controversial statement in 2024. He had said that Britain could become the world’s first truly Islamist country with nuclear weapons.
