ISLAMABAD: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved increasing the price of electricity by Rs1.61 per unit.
Electricity consumers will have to make additional payments in the next month’s bills, but the increase will not apply to Lifeline and Elikrak customers.
The Nepra authority will issue a detailed decision later. A hearing was held on the monthly fuel adjustment for April.
According to officials Nepra, 10.23% less electricity was generated from hydro and 16.06% less from coal, 12.08% less from imported coal and 3.98% less from local coal. Violation of merit order resulted in an additional burden of 3 billion 72 crore 50 lakh rupees.
