The National Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) approved an increase in electricity tariffs as country residents continue to endure hours-long load shedding.
According to NEPRA, a quarterly adjustment for the previous financial year has resulted in permission for a rise of Rs. 1.55 per unit.
The federal government has issued a summary to increase electricity rates for approval. If clearance is granted, the increased fees will be implemented starting in July, according to NEPRA. Customers of K-Electric, however, would not be affected by the hike in electricity prices.
Sources claim that if the federal government approves, an additional cost of Rs45 billion, including General Sales Tax (GST), will be passed on to consumers with an increase in energy costs of Rs1.55.
