Nawaz, Obama meet in Washington, vow to strengthen ties

WASHINGTON: A meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and US President Barack Obama is underway here on Thursday.

The US president welcomed PM Nawaz at the White House.

Speaking on the occasion, the Pakistani premier thanked President Obama for his hospitality and inviting him to visit the United States. He said Pak-US ties have 70-year long relationship.

President Obama said Pakistani community was playing an important role in development and progress of the United States. He said his country has very strong relations with Pakistan.

The president said the United States also wanted to enhance its cooperation with Pakistan in science and technology.

According to our sources, Indian involvement in Pakistan’s internal affairs, war on terrorism and Pakistan’s role in Afghanistan peace process will also be discussed in the meeting.
