NAWABSHAH (INP): A 100 feet breach in canal near Daur has submerged standing crops on hundreds of acres of land and inundated five villages here on Friday.
Irrigation department said that the gushing water from the 100 feet wide breach in Gujrawah canal near Daur town has entered into Akhtar Jatoi, Imambakhsh Brohi, Somer Marri, Khair Mohammad Marri and Sharif Kambo villages, while standing crops on hundreds of acres of land have inundated.
Nawabshah Road has also submerged under breaching canal water affecting road traffic to Sukkur. The people of the affected areas have started shifting to safer places. Irrigation department staff on information reaching the site have started he work of plugging the breach.
Menwhile, At least four persons including a woman were killed as a van fell in pond here early Friday morning. Police said that the accident took place at National Highway in Qazi Ahmed locality of Nawabshah where a private van skidded off road and plunged into a pond by roadside.
As a result of accident all four on board including a woman died on the spot. The rescue personnel in assistance with local people pulled out the bodies from the pond and shifted them to hospital where they were handed over to heirs after medico-legal formalities.
