ISLAMABAD: The government in line with the implementation of National Action Plan (NAP) has shut down 254 religious seminaries across the country over involvement in suspicious activities while monitoring of 190 seminaries has been handed over to Federal Investigation Agency involved in receiving funds for foreign countries.
The registration form for registration of seminaries jointly prepared by National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and ITMP has been dispatched to the concerned provincial and federal security institutions for seeking their opinion.
The Interior Ministry has completed the procedure of collecting data of religious seminaries in Punjab and federal capital Islamabad, while in Sindh 80%, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) 75% and Balochistan 60% work on collecting the data of the seminaries could be completed as yet.
One hundred sixty-seven suspected seminaries in Sindh, 13 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, two in Punjab, and 72 unregistered madrassas in Sindh have been closed so far.
