LAHORE: A National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court on Monday granted a one-day transit remand of Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif to attend the National Assembly session.
Earlier, Prosecutor Waris Januja had submitted a request on behalf of the jail superintendent for Shehbaz’s transit remand. The plea stated that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president has to be flown to Islamabad to attend the NA session scheduled on December 10.
Approving the jail superintendent’s request, the court granted one-day transit remand of the PML-N president.
Earlier, NA speaker Asad Qaiser issued order for production of Shehbaz for a fourth time to allow him to attend the session.
Shehbaz, who was arrested on October 5 in connection to the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme case, was sent to the Kot Lakhpat jail on judicial remand on Thursday after an accountability court in Lahore dismissed NAB’s request for a further extension in his physical remand. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in National Assembly and president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said that with jail comes the hardship. As per the details, the leader of opposition in National Assembly arrived at the Parliament House to attend session of the lower house of the parliament. A team of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) escorted Shehbaz to Islamabad from Lahore via motorway. NA Speaker Asad Qaiser had issued a production order of the PML-N president to enable the leader of the opposition to attend the upcoming session of the lower house of parliament. Responding to a question after arriving at the Parliament House, the PML-N president said that a jail is a jail, adding that there are hardships. He said that undergoing medical examinations is his right, but his medical gets delayed. PML-N chairman Raja Zafarul Haq held a meeting with the former Punjab CM and inquired about his health.
