The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has submitted before the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) a modified report on 150 mega corruption cases. But still list includes cases against high profile political figures including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his brother and Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, former President Asif Ali Zardari, Ishaq Dar and many others.
It is a modified list after SC showed dissatisfaction and directed NAB to include two additional columns in the report for further details. The revised list includes two more columns showing details of the dates of when the application against an individual was filed and when it was verified by the concerned officials.
As the list was made public leaders of different political parties started bashing NAB and claimed that NAB is being used for political victimization of political leaders. Similarly, Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq has criticized the National Accountability Bureau and cautioned that a reference might be filed against it too. He was of the view that NAB has closed cases worth billion of rupees against few and at the same time it has filled frivolous cases against others. On the other hand Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif also grilled NAB for enlisting the name of his family among the bank loan defaulters. He said that he and his family have paid the entire loans with markup and banks have issued clearance certificates.
It is a dilemma of our society that politicians do not let an institution to work freely without any political pressure. NAB has presented a list to the apex court now it is up to the court to look into the matter. At this time all the political parties should not put any sort of pressure on the body which is responsible for the accountability of any sort of corruption.
It is the need of hour to let NAB work without pressure of any sort to make this society corruption free.
