KARACHI: Tense situation was witnessed at Azizabad on Tuesday when PTI leaders came to see the venue of their upcoming political gathering in connection with April 23 by-election.
PTI candidate Imran Ismail and other leaders visited Jinnah Ground of Azizabad and inspected the venue.
Shortly after his arrival, MQM workers reached and started chanting slogans against the PTI leadership. Imran Ismail had to leave the venue after situation turned violent.
Some MQM workers carrying bats smashed windowpanes of Imran Ismail’s vehicle.
Speaking to media persons, Imran Ismail said that his party would not allow hooliganism in Karachi. “We have come here to make arrangements for our rally. We will break the shackles of fear in Karachi,” he said.
Ismail said that some of his workers were wounded in the clash. “We are shifting our workers to hospital,” he said.
“I wasn’t expecting this from the MQM,” he stated.
The PTI leader said that a handful of people were with the MQM, adding that he was greeted by the people.
