KARACHI: Authorities have barred Wasay Jalil, a senior leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), from leaving Pakistan, sources said on Thursday.
According to the sources, the MQM leader was interrogated by Rangers at Karachi’s JinnahInternational Airport on Wednesday evening before he was informed that he could not leave the country.
It was not immediately clear as to why Jalil was questioned and then stopped from leaving the country.
Sources, however, said that the MQM leader was later allowed to go home
Earlier in the day, officials of Pakistan Rangers Sindh questioned Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Wasay Jalil pertaining to different matters.
Rangers’ officials asked several questions from Jalil and later permitted him to go, sources said. If needed, he can again be called for questioning.
Jalil has been nominated in different cases with regard to land grabbing, blocking of roads and violation of Loud Speaker Act.
The MQM leader had recently returned to Karachi after his 10 months’ stay in London.
