MQM chief rejects JIT report, demands foreign investigation

MQMHYDERABAD: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain rejected the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report about the arson in Baldia Townfactory, asserting the half of the country was lost owing to such reports as this.

Addressing foundation-stone laying ceremony of Altaf Hussain University at Bagh-e-Mustafa Ground overnight, he said the soldiers of Pakistan Army are busy grappling with the terrorists, adding the troops of armed forces including army, the rangers and police are laying down their lives for the sake of homeland.

Calling in question the character of members of JIT on Baldia factory fire, Altaf Hussain asserted there are black sheep in the armed forces, ISI and the rangers.

Raising different questions over the JIT report, the MQM chief said, “Why was the JIT report not produced earlier? Why were the factory owners not called in when the ruling was made public? Who did set free Rizwan Qureshi—the man named in JIT report?”

Moreover, Altaf Hussain demanded, “If any MQM worker is found involved in the BaldiaTown factory arson, he should be executed.” He remarked those responsible for Baldia debacle, will be penalized in this life and the life in Hereafter.

Baldia Fire JIT report produced before SHC bench

It should be mentioned here that the JIT report, presented before two-member bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) on February 6, made some shocking revelations regarding Baldia factory arson.

JIT was formed on June 22, 2013 to ascertain the causes of massive blaze in the garment factory that claimed lives of over 250 innocent people.

In a shocking development, a suspect, who is currently in the custody of paramilitary force, Rangers, confessed to perpetrating incendiarism that killed near 300 factory workers on the night of September 11, 2012.

The report revealed that doors of Ali Enterprises, a garment factory in Baldia Town were locked from outside, when the firefighters rushed to the site to extinguish the blaze. The firefighters had to force into the burning factory by breaking the locks.

The report also declared that the fire was not an accident; instead, it was arson inflicted upon the factory that failed to provide the huge sum of money demanded by the extortionists purportedly hailing from a political party.

The MQM chief said the investigators came from the United Nations and Britain’s Scotland Yard to probe the assassination of Benazir Bhutto; however, the investigation could not come to fruition.

He demanded the Baldia fire be investigated by foreign investigators from international investigation agencies.

Making a mention of May 12 incident, Altaf Hussain remarked his party organized a rally for the supremacy of law and independence of judiciary on this day when former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry landed in Karachi, adding the rally was attended by small children and mothers carrying their infants among others.

He said MQM-Haqiqi people were handed the MQM flags on May 12 to create disturbance, adding, “Firearms were recovered from the vehicle of Sherry Rehman on May 12.”

The report regarding the plane crash of General Ziaul Haq could not come to the fore, he asserted adding no JIT report was prepared about Ojhari camp disaster several years ago.

Rather annoyed at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Altaf Hussain said the PTI never took the names of Al-Qaeda, Daesh or Taliban, adding the Al-Qaeda operatives were captured from the residence of a Jamaat-e-Islami leader.

He also demanded Army Chief General Raheel Sharif never to trust JI and PTI.

The MQM leader subjected the PTI’s Islamabad sit-in to extreme criticism, alleging that indecent activities were allowed in the protest of the Insafians. NNI
