Karachi: FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh has said that a Pakistani business delegation led by FPCCI participated in the Bangladesh Pakistan Business Forum organized by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) in Dhaka on Monday. A high-level Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between FPCCI and FBCCI in this forum, through which a Pakistan-Bangladesh Joint Business Council will be formed to make trade between the two countries better, more convenient and viable.
Atif Ikram Sheikh added that the business forum represented business interests from diverse industries and sectors such as electronics, cars, industrial machinery, carpets, toys, ceramics, sanitary products, handicrafts, textiles, ready-made garments, leather products, home appliances, processed foods, furniture, plastic goods, jute products, cosmetics, sports goods and jewellery, etc.
On the occasion, FBCCI Administrator Mohammad Hafeez-ur-Rehman stressed the need to leverage the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to strengthen trade relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Mohammad Hafeez-ur-Rehman said that there is ample scope for the two countries to work together in areas such as energy, education, technology, human resource development, research and innovation to meet the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
President FPCCI Atif Ikram Sheikh, while giving information about other high-level engagements during the delegation’s visit to Bangladesh, said that the Pakistani trade delegation had an important meeting with Bangladesh Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin a day ago. In which he expressed his government’s intention to facilitate Pakistani exporters and Pakistani products.
Atif Ikram Sheikh said that Pakistani exporters have received an initial order of 25,000 metric tons of sugar and the demand for raw cloth from Bangladesh is so high that it has become scarce in Faisalabad.
Saqib Fayyaz Mago said that the Pakistani delegation will also visit the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) to explore avenues of mutual cooperation and study international trends in various existing and emerging industries.
