RAWALPINDI: More than 1.7 million saplings would be planted in Rawalpindi during current spring tree plantation campaign 2015.
All-out efforts are being made to plant maximum saplings with the help and cooperation of civil society, defence and health deptt as well as educational institutions during the campaign said Conservator of Forests Rawalpindi Region, Iftikhar Ahmed Qureshi.
Conservator of Forests, Iftikhar Ahmed Qureshi informed that efforts were being made to achieve the set target. He said a comprehensive plan of massive tree plantation has been evolved to bring maximum area under forest cover which is basic requirement to overcome environmental degradation.
He said that the staff members of the department have been activated to make sure proper forestation in their respective areas which will be inspected by the senior forest officers.
According to the forest department total 17, 20,000 saplings would be planted in the distt. Under the plan 8,20,000 plants would be planted in Govt. forests ,1,10,000 other government departments ,1,80,000 defence departments and 6,00,000 would be planted on private lands.
Conservator of Forests further said that to achieve the target special instructions had been given to all DFOs .
The forest department has established 26 sale points in the district from where citizens can purchase all available seasonal plants on discount rates, he added.
