Minister appreciates paramedic, nurses for provision of healthcare facilities

LAHORE, Aug 07 (NNI): Minister for Excise & Taxation and Finance, Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman has said that paramedics and nurses play vital role in provision of the healthcare facilities to the patients therefore, they are the backbone of our healthcare system.

He said that government has created 3000 new posts of nurses and Rs. 1.43 billion has been allocated for this purpose in the current fiscal year whereas the recruitment process has been initiated.

Talking to delegations of nurses, paramedics and party workers,  Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman said that focus of the government is upon primary and protective healthcare so that to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), to achieve the targets the community midwifery homes will be established at the far flung areas of the province to provide basic health facilities to child & mother and to look after their health as well as to minimize the maternal & neonatal mortality rate during the child birth.

He said that government has provided record funds to health sector for imparting modern healthcare facilities. He said that by increasing the health budget up to 121.80 billion rupees, the present government has ensured modern health facilities and free medicines to poor and resource-less people.

He said that people of rural and remote areas are also being provided treatment facilities through mobile health units and Rs. 1 billion has been provided for this purpose. He said that huge sum of Rs.47.44 billion will be spent for treatment facility and upgrade the hospitals during current financial year.

Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman aid that the government was appointing trained lady health workers, LHVs and community midwives at health centers, especially in remote areas so that infants and mothers could be saved from fatal diseases, whereas, LHWs were being appointed in remote areas.

He said the MMR in LHWs covered area is 147/100,000 live births, compared 300 to 350/100,000 to uncovered areas, therefore, the LHWs, LHVs and the community midwives were being appointed at all the health centers in remote areas.
