General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), has issued new instructions to all of his commanders and important officers, including those connected to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), advising them to avoid engaging in politics and associating with politicians.

These instructions follow Imran Khan-led PTI propaganda against the military establishment, which accuses select ISI personnel of engaging in political engineering to sway the impending by-elections in Punjab in PTI’s favor.

The ISI sector commander in Lahore, who is being attacked by PTI politicians, has not even been in Lahore for over a fortnight due to some of his professional activities in Islamabad, according to defense sources who express regret over the accusations. Dr. Yasmin Rashid, the leader of the PTI and a former minister of health in Punjab, was recently named the sector commander and accused him of being involved in politics to manipulate the by-elections in Punjab.
