Mazari criticizes Gulalai, says ‘she is opportunist’

ISLAMABAD  (INP): Women leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) came out in defence of their party and party chairman Imran Khan calling former member Ayesha Gulalai an opportunist for levelling allegations of corruption and sexism in the party.

Addressing media here, senior PTI leader Shireen Mazar said Gulalai had wanted a for NA-1 and is now hurling accusations even though the decision about handing out tickets has not been finalised.

Mazari said that Gulalai could have left the party if she had wanted to but should not have hurled false accusations against Imran Khan.

“Imran Khan gave respect to us…Gulalai doesn’t realise how much respect she was given,” she said.

Mazari then criticised political rivals, asking if Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Khawaja Asif had forgotten “that he said things about me [as well].

Ayesha Gulalai earlier announced that she is leaving the party and had alleged that the reason for her leaving the party was that the honour of women was not safe.

Gulalai, who hails from South Waziristan, is the first female MNA from restive tribal areas. She has been pretty active within and outside the parliament.

Gulalai cited ill-treatment of women in the party as the reason for her decision. She said that she had conveyed her grievances to the party leadership but no action was taken, forcing her to take the decision.

“Women workers are not valued in the PTI,” Gulalai said, adding that she will not be voting for Sheikh Rashid in the prime minister election in National Assembly on Tuesday.

Ayesha, who remained absent from the Assembly to cast crucial vote for the election of the new prime minister scheduled at 3 p.m., said that she has left PTI because women get no respect in the party.
