KARACHI: Two Military Police personnel on Wednesday will be laid to rest in native towns after funeral prayers were offered at PNS Shifa on December 1 Wednesday.

The prayers were attended by Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Zakaullah, Corps Commander Karachi Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar and other officials.

Two Military Police personnel identified as constable Rashid and lance naik Arshad had embraced martyrdom on Tuesday in an attack on MA Jinnah Road near Tibet Centre. A case has been registered in Parady Police Station.

Eyewitnesses said that two men rode a motorcycle to the attack site and opened fire at the personnel.

PM Nawaz has offered his condolence to the families of martyrs and has taken notice of the incident in addition to ordering immediate arrest of the attackers.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcast Pervez Rashid has also expressed sorrow over the incident. He has vowed not to let the attackers get away from the dastardly attack on the lives of the uniformed personnel.

Sindh Police Inspector General (IG) and Additional IG visited the attack site. While talking to the media, DIG South Dr Jameel had said that attackers opened fire from the rear. He said that four to five 9mm shells were recovered from the crime scene.

Sindh Home Ministry took notice of the incident while Chief Minister (CM) Qaim Ali Shah summoned a report from Sindh Police IG.

The attack came around ten days after three Rangers personnel were martyred while four sustained injuries in an assailment in Ittehad Town area. Officials had suggested the attackers intended to target the mosque during Friday prayers. Agencies
