PESHAWAR: A major terror bid was foiled on Thursday as the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) defused five home-made bombs planted near an electricity pylon in Phandu area near Jamil Chowk here.

According to police, some people spotted the pressure cooker bombs placed near a 132 kv tower on Ring Road. The police along with the BDS officials reached the spot and defused the bombs.

A BDS official said that each bomb weighed around 20 kilogram. The pressure cookers were reportedly made in Afghanistan.

The security forces, later, launched a search operation in the area to arrest the miscreants.

The Senior Superintendent of Police Peshawar told the media that one bomb was planted at the base of the pylon while the rest were placed in fields.

Meanwhile, the Nasir Bagh Police arrested at least 34 suspects, including 11 Afghan nationals, in the search operation in their jurisdiction. Weapons, including three repeater guns, four pistols and a short machine gun, were recovered from the suspects.
