ISLAMABAD (PR): The National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) opened a new three-dimensional creative diorama on “Uncle Sargam” at Heritage Museum here at Shakarparian. The diorama serves as a tribute to both the character of Uncle Sargam and Farooq Qaiser who, apart from creating the character of Uncle Sargam, has also trained many new artists during his illustrious career and has hence become an institute unto himself.
The museum depicts living cultural traditions and life styles of the people of Pakistan covering all provinces, regions and even remote and far flung areas.
A formal opening of the diorama was performed by Dr. Fouzia Saeed, Executive Director, Lok Virsa and Mr. Farooq Qaiser. The inauguration of Uncle Sargam Diorama was an interactive event, especially interesting for children, youth and families who also got a chance to experience the quirky humor of Uncle Sargam, Masi Museebtay and the rest of their group, as the group recreated some of their finest moments on the occasion in live skits which were performed on stage at Museum Hall.
In her welcoming remarks, Dr. Fouzia Saeed highly appreciated the contribution of Mr. Farooq Qaiser in creating awareness among the masses about various social issues through puppets in an entertaining manner. Farooq Qaiser also spoke on the occasion and thanked Lok Virsa for creating Uncle Sargam diorama at the Heritage Museum.
Uncle Sargam is a most famous puppet character of Pakistan, that first appeared in the children show “Kaliyan” aired by Pakistan Television in 1976. It soon became a household name in the country for portraying political, social and more difficult issues, with humor and a tinge of sarcasm. Uncle Sargam was created and voiced by the award-winning puppeteer, artist and columnist Farooq Qaiser.
The Uncle Sargam diorama has been created keeping in view the precedence set by other three dimensional dioramas at the Heritage Museum.
A large number of people from different walks of life, particularly students from the schools and colleges working under the administrative control of Federal Directorate of Education attended the event and enjoyed the performances rendered by Uncle Sargam team.
