RAWALPINDI, Jan 09 (INP): The Lahore High Court’s (LHC) Rawalpindi bench on Friday accepted for hearing a petition for halting the executions of three death row convicts.
A single-member bench of the LHC, headed by Justice Amin Qazi, was hearing a petition filed by convicts — Khalid Mehmood, Nawazish Ali and Mushtaq Ahmed — who had been convicted in relation to an attack on former military ruler Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf in Rawalpindi in 2003.
The convicts’ counsel Colonel Retd Inamur Rahim petitioned to the court, saying that they were unable to appeal against the death sentence handed down by the military court.
Justice Amin Qazi accepted their request for hearing of their appeals on Jan 12. The attorney general of Pakistan has also been summoned for the same.
