ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has directed Sindh, Punjab and KPK governments to file their replies on preparations of local bodies’ elections in the provinces.
These orders were issued by a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk while hearing a case pertaining to legislation for local government polls.
During the course of hearing, the CJP enquired about the deadline given to Punjab and Sindh for legislation on LB polls and fresh delimitations.
The CJP expressed his displeasure on KPK authorities for not holding the elections. At which, Additional Attorney General of the KPK said that court in its orders had authorized ECP to make new electoral boundaries that caused a delay in elections. At which, the CJP said the court were not rightly interpreted. The court issued notices to Attorney Generals of Sindh, Punjab and KPK to file respective replies of provincial governments within 15 days.
However, the ECP said on Wednesday that holding of LG polls is impossible in Nov sans any legislation and delimitation. It said the task may take nearly six more months. INP
