Donald Trump has lambasted Pakistan. His speech was really pillorying. Let’s have a look what he has said about Pakistan.
“We can no longer be silent about Pakistan’s safe havens for terrorist organisations,” he said
He said,“We have been paying Pakistan billions and billions of dollars at the same time they are housing the very terrorists that we are fighting,”
He said, “That will have to change and that will change immediately.”
He also warned that the vital aid could be cut.
We all know what is going on in Afghanistan. Taliban have many countries now to support them. Even US has admitted that Russia and Iran are supporting the Taliban. Washington Post reported on April 24 that “A senior U.S. military official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence on the issue, said the Russians have increased their supply of equipment and small arms to the Taliban over the past 18 months. The official said the Russians have been sending weapons, including medium and heavy machine guns, to the Taliban under the guise that the materiel would be used to fight the Islamic State in eastern Afghanistan. Instead, the official said, the weapons were showing up in some of Afghanistan’s southern provinces, including Helmand and Kandahar — both areas with little Islamic State presence.”
Same is the case with Iran. Gone are the days when Iran was hostile towards the Taliban. The Wall Street Journal reported on june 11, 2015 that “When a Taliban commander in central Afghanistan, needs more rifles and ammunition, he turns to the same people who pay his $580-a-month salary: his Iranian sponsors”.
There are many powers across the globe supporting the Taliban. Then why US is lambasting Pakistan? US is simply shifting blame for its failures in Afghanistan.
