KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that the Karachi’s Green Line bus project will be more beautiful than the Lahore metro. The Prime Minister said this while addressing the ground-breaking ceremony of Green Line Bus Transport System here on Friday.

The Prime Minister informed the audience that the government has provided sixteen billion rupees for the Green Line Bus Transport System in Karachi, which will provide modern transport facilities to the commuters.

The Prime Minister added that the work on the second track of Lyari Expressway will be started next month and directions have been issued for release of two billion rupees for the project. Nawaz Sharif said the network of motorways is being spread throughout the country. Work on Lahore-Karachi motorway will soon be started which will link Karachi to Peshawar.

The Prime Minister said that he was confident that in the next few years, Pakistan will emerge as a country having the best connectivity infrastructure in the region.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also reaffirmed the commitment to take the Karachi operation to its logical conclusion to purge the metropolis of all crimes. Nawaz Sharif said incidents of target killings, kidnapping for ransom and other violent acts have been reduced to a great deal and the situation will continue to improve as the government is firm in his commitment to restore peace.

The Prime Minister said indigenous resources are being used to meet the power requirements of the country. He said it is the first time that Thar coal is being exploited to produce electricity. He said due to effective policies, the country is also making a turn-around on economic front.

The Green Line starts at SurjaniTown and is to end at MunicipalPark, M.A. Jinnah Road and will benefit nearly 300,000 passengers per day. The project is expected to be completed within one year.
