At least 90 people were killed and hundreds wounded on Wednesday when a massive truck bomb ripped through Kabul’s diplomatic quarter, bringing carnage to the streets of the Afghan capital just days into the holy fasting month of Ramazan. Hundreds of people received injuries and became victim of the deadly explosion. A suicide bomber detonated an explosives-packed vehicle, intensity of the explosion can be measure from the fact that almost all the vehicles in Zanbaq Square were either destroyed completely or damaged.
Attacking a place in Kabul’s diplomatic district, an area which is already under tight security proved the fact once again that over one third of the country is outside Afghan government’s control. It is also proved that Afghanistan’s war on terror is far from over and a lot more needs to be done to bring stability in the country. This is not the first time that terrorists have managed to attack a sensitive area in the capital of Afghanistan. In the past, numbers of similar attacks have taken lives of hundreds of innocent people.
Pakistan has condemned the terrorism attack in Kabul and reiterated its stance to offer all required assistance to help in bringing stability in Afghanistan. Pakistan has also said time and again that stability in Afghanistan is directly linked with peace and prosperity of the region. Pakistan should keep extending support to Afghanistan in fight against terror in order to eliminate trust deficit between the two countries. But it is unfortunate that Afghanistan’s spy agency once again blamed the Taliban-allied Haqqani network along with Pakistan for the blast.
The Afghan government needs to come up with a clear approach to deal with the insurgency instead of the usual blame game against Pakistan. The Afghan government, military and intelligence agencies need to mark loopholes and try to maintain peace along with establishing writ of the state. In such a scenario, where Taliban are getting strength by regrouping and ISIS is also posing great threat, maintaining stability in the country would be a tough task for Afghan government. Tough actions need to be taken.
It is unfortunate that after every terrorist attack in the country Afghanistan blames Pakistan.
