ISLAMABAD, Dec 6 (INP): Justice (retd) Sardar Muhammad Raza took oath as the new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) at the Supreme Court here on Saturday. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Nasirul Mulk administered the oath of office to Justice Raza in a simple but dignified ceremony.
Judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Attorney General for Pakistan , Officers of Election Commission of Pakistan, Federal Judicial Academy , Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan prominent lawyers and Law officers also attended the ceremony.
Justice Sardar resigned as chief justice of the Federal Shariat Court on Friday, a post he had to relinquish with his appointment as the new CEC.
Political analysts say Justice Sardar Raza assumes the charge at a time when the ECP is under pressure to hold local government elections across the country, particularly in Punjab and Sindh, without any further delays, even as provincial governments continue to drag their feet.
