LAHORE, Nov 19 (INP): A five-member Joint Investigation Team (JIT) tasked with conducting probe into the Model Town incident in Lahore finally kicked off its working, as chief of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri, has rejected the inquiry.
CCPO Quetta, Abdul Razzaq Cheema, is leading the investigation team that has been authorized to interrogate some bigwigs as well.
The other team members include Col. Ahmed (ISI), Muhammad Ali (IB), AIG Shahzad Akber and DSP CID Khalid Abu Bakar.
On Wednesday, Cheema chaired a meeting which chalked out its future course of action, reviewing recording of statements and collection of evidences pertaining to the tragedy.
On the other hand, Dr. Qadri has rejected the JIT, claiming that head of the team has allegiance with Nawaz Sharif.
The Model Town tragedy had left 12 workers of PAT dead and many others injured in deadly clashes with police on June 17, 2017 in Lahore.
