PESHAWAR: The Jamat-e-Islami (JI) has recommended the name of Justice (Retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid for the post of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on Friday.
During a press conference in Peshawar, Central Secretary JI Liaqat Baloch impressed upon the government to appoint CEC without further ado.
He said JI has advised the name of Justice (Retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid prior to the elections when Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) agreed upon the name of Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim’s name.
Liaqat Baloch said Nawaz Sharif learnt nothing from his past and that he needs to change his demeanor. Resignations of PTI would cast a new crisis in the country, he added.
He commended Speaker’s approach in dealing with PTI resignations and advised PTI members to take their resignations back.
He further said that in case parliament holds no discussion in regard to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) they are ready to stage sit-in and protest along with the affectees. He blamed America and India for orchestrating Wagah Border’s gruesome blast.
Earlier, PTI had also suggested the name of Justice (Retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid for the status of CEC in a meeting held between vice chairman PTI Shah Mehmood Qureshi and opposition leader Khursheed Shah for the consultation over CEC’s appointment. DNA
