LAHORE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif, held a key meeting at their Raiwind residence today (Sunday) and reviewed demands put forth by protesting leaders of PTI and PAT. Some senior leaders were also present during the meeting.
Sources said the two high-ups have agreed that government should continue its efforts for mediation and reconciliation with Imran Khan and Dr. Tahirul Qadri who demand Prime Minister’s resignation.
In his remarks on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that the government believes in supremacy of the constitution and parliament and all the issues should be decided in the parliament and not on roads. He reiterated that the PML-N would defend democracy at any cost. He said those conspiring against democracy through protests cannot be well-wishers of the country and its people.
According to sources, the Sharif Brothers have said that all demands are acceptable other than PM’s resignation and dissolution of assemblies.
Nawaz and Shahbaz also agreed that Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, PPP’s Syed Khurshid Shah and Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq should continue to play their role for government’s reconciliation with Imran Khan, whereas Sindh and Punjab governors will remain in touch with Qadri.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad held telephonic conversation with Ch Nisar Sunday over the emerging political situation after threats and deadlines given by the PTI & PAT leaders.
The PML-N leadership is of the view that dialogue is the only solution to problems and the Parliament is the only forum to make demands, sources said.INP
