ISLAMABAD: A special ceremony is being held to commemorate International Firefighters’ Day at Jinnah Convention Centre today (Monday). Chairman CDA, Mr. Maroof Afzal would be the chief guest on the occasion and it will be participated by the CDA Board Members, officers and Fire Fighters of Emergency Disaster Management Directorate, rescue workers and the staff of CARES – the Emergency Ambulance Service.
On this occasion physical demonstration would be exhibited to extinguish the fire as well as rescue drill would be conducted to rescue the injured stranded in high rise buildings. The special trained sniper dogs would also demonstrate the search of people under the debris. In addition to the above, smartly dressed contingent of firefighters would present guard of honour to the chairman CDA and March Past.
In this regard to finalize the arrangements to commemorate the International Firefighters’ Day, a meeting was held which was presided by Member (Environment) and attended by the officers and officials of Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate and other concerned officers.
This ceremony would be held at 4:30 PM at Jinnah Convention Centre. At this occasion, 5 second silence will be observed to pay tribute to those Firefighters who sacrificed their lives to save the lives of other people.
Apart from this fire and rescue mock drill will be held and the firefighters along with their Firefighting and rescue equipments and latest fire tenders and vehicles would march in the city on a designated route to create awareness about the importance of this day among the citizens. 68 meter modern snorkel, fire tenders and emergency ambulance services will also participate in this march.
This flag march consisting of latest fire vehicles equipped with life safety devices would end at Fire Bridge Headquarters after marching on different areas.
Besides this, the citizens would be informed about the safety measures and techniques to deal with natural calamities.
This ceremony will also be participated by the officers of National Disasters Management Authority (NDMA), Civil Defense, CDA officers of other government department and citizens of Islamabad.
