London: In the opening One-Day International at The Oval in London on Tuesday, India hammered 50-over reigning champions Uk by 10 wickets thanks to Jasprit Bumrah’s destruction of the top order.
The hosts were bowled for just 110 runs in 25.2 overs thanks to fast bowler Bumrah’s career-best 6-19.
After winning the toss favourably, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma scored an unbroken 76 before Dhawan (31 not out) ran out Brydon Carse for four and the visitors reached 114-0 with some more than 31 overs remaining.
With the victory, India, who will host the 2023 World Cup, now leads the three-match series, which resumes at Lord’s on Thursday,
Bumrah bowled a four-wicket opening burst in five overs against an England team that may have had their best batting lineup at this level since winning the 2019 World Cup final.
Against Australia at Old Trafford in 2001, England averted the humiliation of being removed for less than their all-time worst completed ODI total of 86.
However, England was bowled out with just under half of their 50 overs remaining due to an innings that included four ducks in the top six – Jason Roy, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Liam Livingstone were all out for zero.
