RAWALPINDI, Oct 24 (INP): The opening ceremony to mark the beginning of the first international UN Peacekeeping Military Observers Course was organized by the Centre for International Peace & Stability (CIPS) – NUST Institute of Peace & Conflict Studies (NIPCONS) in the H12 Campus.
According to ISPR, nine overseas participants from Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Lebanon, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Ukraine, Zambia and Zimbabwe along with 22 Pakistani observers (21 Army officers and one Naval officer) are also attending the course.
The event was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, defence attaches, representatives of UN agencies and ICRC. Welcoming the participants of the course, Rector NUST Engineer Muhammad Asghar highlighted the fact that Pakistan had over half a century of rich experience in UN peacekeeping and ranks among the top Troop Contributing Countries (TCC) of the world. Pakistani contribution in UN peacekeeping has been recognized internationally by no less a person than the UN Secretary General himself, at numarious occasions.
CIPS is the only peacekeeping training school in the world that has the unique honour of being inaugurated by the UN Secretary General.
