ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Tuesday condemned what he called the government’s ‘arbitrary and absurd decision’ of placing the independent Regulatory Authorities under the very ministries they are meant to regulate and ensure they perform within the law and the ambit of their legally-prescribed bounds.

Khan stated that, ‘Nawaz Sharif, in a move that reflects a clear disregard for accountability and transparency, Nawaz Sharif has destroyed the independence of these Regulatory Authorities by placing them under the administrative control of the very ministries they were meant to regulate and oversee.’

He declared that, ‘Such a brazen move to undermine any form of transparency and accountability of the government ministries is unacceptable in a functional and meaningful democracy.’

He added, ‘Therefore PTI totally rejects this move by the government. This move, he said, is part of Nawaz Sharif’s scheme to reduce the Parliamentary democratic system into a ‘badshahat’ and to destroy all regulation and accountability of the government, state organisations and bureaucracies.’ ‘PTI will fight this nefarious design on all forums,’ he concluded.
