IGP for close cooperation between police and community to curb crime

ISLAMABAD, Jan 13 (INP): The mutual cooperation between police and community is imperative to curb crime and this liaison will be enhanced to maintain peace in the society and get rid of the anti-social elements.

This was stated by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan while addressing the members of security and vigilance committees constituted in City and Rural Zone of Islamabad. Officials from law enforcement agencies also briefed the participants about the security scenario in the city and stressed for enhanced cooperation of society members to maintain peace. SP City Rizwan Gondal, SP Rural Yasir Afridi and other police officials of Islamabad were also present on the occasion.

The IGP said that Islamabad police is committed to ensure friendly police culture in the city and eliminate criminal activities through the cooperation of citizens. “Basic purpose of police is to serve people and overcome crime. But this objective can not be achieved without the cooperation of community members,” he maintained.

He said that members of security and vigilance committees should have to work actively to point out t anti-social element. The IGP directed all police officials to conduct survey in their respective areas through cooperation of these members and gather information about all the persons residing in their respective jurisdictions. He said that complete information should be maintained about the history of people permanently or temporarily residing there.

Tahir Alam Khan said that Islamabad Police have decided to make Security and Vigilance Committees more effective and ensure arrest of proclaimed offenders and other anti-social elements on priority basis after complete coordination with the citizens.

The IGP also elaborated as how members would cooperate with police and thanked for support from all members. He hoped that society will be made crime-free through more cooperation among citizens and police.

He urged the members to keep a vigilant eye on every new person in their respective areas and if something suspicious is witnessed it should be brought to the notice of police. The IGP gave the members his personal number to contact him in case of any problem or police sluggish attitude towards them.
