LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) displayed a strong show of power at Minar-e-Pakistan on Sunday, as thousands of party supporters and workers from all over the country gathered at the ground.
Starting with national anthem, PTI Chief Imran Khan presented 11-point agenda for a Naya Pakistan. PTI chief vowed to fight till the last drop of blood for the rights of Pakistanis. Explaining how the country is being ruined and put under debt trap, PTI chairman blamed previous governments for the precarious economic situation. Ask yourself why Pakistan had been created”, Khan asked charged crowd while adding at the same time that Pakistan was created on the model of Madina.
Apprising attendants about frisking of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi at US airport, Khan stated that if country’s premier undergoes through such humiliation then how would be a common Pakistani would be treated in the world. “The point I m making is, that we were supposed to be a country who had to tell the world what the justice and humanity is”, stated Khan. “Pakistan’s loan volume doubled during Zardari’s era. The same augmented to Rs27000 bn from Rs6000bn during Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s current tenure”, claimed Khan.
“The country which is under debts loses its freedom, you become enslaved to the one you are indebted to even without conquering the country”, stated Khan. “We are on crossroads today. On one end lies disrespect and on the other lies dignity. Pakistan is the second country with most number of out of the school children, after Nigeria”, Khan told participants.
Senior party leaders who have reached the venue include, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtwnkha Pervaiz Khattak, former Punjab governor Ch Sarwar, Senator Faisal Javed, MNA Shirin Mazari, PTI Balochistan President Sardar Yar Mohammad Rind, KP Speaker Asad Qaiser, and Fawad Chaudhry.
PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmod Qureshi termed Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari two sides of same coin. Qureshi said voters have tried Sharif thrice but no change was seen and only Imran Khan and PTI are capable to bring the real change in people’s lives.
Taking a jibe at Nawaz Sharif’s ‘friendship’ with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mazari said Sharif has no pain for innocent Kashmiris and only cared for his interests. Addressing the rally, Rind said ‘whenever Lahore made a decision whole Pakistan has followed it’. ‘Today I see a new Pakistan in the making,’ he added.
Awami Mulsim League chief Sheikh Rasheed demanded to shoot all the corrupt people to cleanse the country of corruption. Today is a great game underway against Pakistan Army to malign its image but we will not let it happen, he vowed. Imran Khan has vowed to make rally a historic one and called upon the supporters to join him in big numbers. PTI’s October 2011 rally at the same venue stunned Khan’s detractors when thousands of people attended the jalsa, which, according to political observers was one of the biggest rallies held in the city over the past two decades.
