Every year on December 10, International Human Rights Day is celebrated to commemorate the first global declaration of human rights. Like many other countries, in Pakistan the day was marked by conferences and events to highlight significant issues of human rights and to discuss strategies and policies designed to cope with them. Politicians also take it as an opportunity to make fiery speeches and mostly they are unaware with the grim reality that surrounds society when it comes to human rights issues. Our society is griped with human rights violations including child marriages, child labour, so called honour for killing, worst conditions for workers. In most parts of the country, laborers are not being paid even the lowest salary declared by government. Number of times due to the child labour multinational companies has declined to give their orders to Pakistani companies. Basic human rights are being violated from an individual level to a collective level because of the feudal system. Today the unrest and crime rates have increased in society, mainly because human rights were violated in controlling these crimes. Arrested person is usually not even told why he was taken into custody, not because there is flaw in any of our laws or constitution, but because the laws were not implemented properly. It is also true that if only we follow the law and our constitution, society could prosper on a daily basis. Implementation of the law is the main problem in a Pakistani society and it is the duty of the state to execute the laws. In our country laws were drafted but unfortunately never implemented. In order to spread more awareness in this regard Human Rights Charter should be included in the school syllabus in Pakistan. Every human in the globe deserves same right to live in a respectable way, but sadly even in today’s world rights of many are being exploited. Every individual in this world deserves the equal rights putting aside discriminations on the basis of states, boundaries, religions, races, languages as well as color. Many organizations around the world are working on human rights, but until people themselves will not fight for their rights it would be hard to achieve the ultimate goal. Laws for human rights exist but non implementation is the main problem in Pakistani society.
