LAHORE: Gullu Butt, the notorious character of Model Town incident, was sentenced to 11 years and three months in jail and fined Rs.111,000 for vandalizing public properties in Lahore, reported.
Butt was taken into police custody following the court ruling. Contrary to his expectations, a local anti-terrorist court announced its decision after hearing a case pertaining to the June 2014 violence which left at least 14 people dead following a clash between supporters of Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri’s Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and police. Gullu Butt, who shot to notoriety overnight after leading a large contingent of rampaging cops, was caught on TV cameras when smashing window panes of cars on the day when Model Town incident occurred. Butt had pleaded not guilty to the charges. “We accept the judicial verdict but legal right is still in our hand and we will challenge the decision in superior court… Why the Gullu Butt alone? All other culprits should also be punished,” Butt’s counsel spoke to reporters.
