Govt working on 25-year vision to meet major challenges: All economic indicators giving positive outlook: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said the PML-N government is working on a 25-year vision to meet major challenges of energy, economy and terrorism.

He said this while talking to a delegation of PML-N MNAs belonging to Sargodha Division, Bhakkar, Sahiwal and Multan which called on him at the PM House here Friday.

The Prime Minister said the government of PML-N always believed in and focused on economic and infrastructure development in a transparent manner to ensure country’s progress. He said the problems Pakistan is faced with are ages old and it is regrettable that no one tried to find solutions to these in the past. It is my belief that if we succeed in implementing our agenda, history would remember PML-N as the party which put Pakistan on the path of progress and development, he said.Strengthening of the economy is our top most priority as increased amount of resources would be generated enabling the country to successfully meet all other challenges, he said.

The Prime Minister said it is a matter of satisfaction for the government that there has been no scam or scandal during its tenure. He said the government has zero tolerance towards corruption and any official found involved in it at any level will be dealt with an iron hand.

Nawaz said all economic indicators are giving a positive outlook which is being acknowledged by international economic institutions. Forex reserves have increased, inflation has come down and stock exchange has reached a record level, he added.

He said this goes to the credit of PML-N government that it has decided to take bold steps towards attaining lasting peace and stability in Karachi after having taken all political parties on board.

The Prime Minister said we want to take all parties along and wish them to play a positive role in strengthening country’s democratic institutions.

Talking about the steps being taken by the government to curb terrorism, he said, operation Zarb-e-Azb has proved very effective in dismantling the infrastructure and hideouts of terrorists who are on the run. I am sure soon the menace of terrorism will be eradicated from the country, he said.

The Prime Minister said Islam has disregarded terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and it is binding upon us to eradicate this menace.

He said we want to have good relations with all countries of the region. Our relations with Afghanistan have considerably improved which will help bring peace in the region.

Regarding the energy sector, he said government is hopeful of adding around 10,000 MW electricity which includes 3000 MW planned to be imported from China and 3600 MW electricity to be produced from LNG-based plants. This additional electricity would be added to the national grid by 2017 so that PML-N may fulfill its promise of overcoming energy shortage in the country, he said.

The Prime Minister said we want to produce energy at low cost to make it affordable for the people. Electricity prices would again be brought down soon to provide relief to the general public, he said.

The MNAs congratulated the Prime Minister on making policies which have put the country on the road to progress despite huge challenges the country is faced with and appreciated the courageous decisions taken by the government in this regard.

They felicitated him that because of effective policies of the government, PML-N candidate was able to win by-election in Nankana with a huge margin.   The legislators also apprised the Prime Minister of matters pertaining to their areas especially those related to infrastructure development, agriculture, dairy farming, education and health facilities as well as clean drinking water.

The delegation comprised Pir Muhammad Amin ul Hasnat Shah (Minister of State for Religious Affairs), Mr. Mohsin Shah Nawaz Ranjha, Chaudhry Hamid Hameed, Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti, Sardar Muhammad Shafqat Hayat Khan, Malik Muhammad Uzair Khan, Mr. Obaid ullah Khan Shadikhel, Mr. Abdul Majeed Khan, Dr. Muhammad Afzal Khan Dhandla, Syed Imran Ahmad Shah, Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf, Chaudhry Muhammad Munir Azhar, Sardar Mansab Ali Dogar, Rana Zahid Hussain Khan and Mr. Javed Ali Shah.
