ISLAMABAD: The government has imposed 30 paisa further taxes in power tariff per unit on the consumers in the name of equalization surcharge.
According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Water and Power, the government has imposed fresh tax on the consumers in the name of equalization (EQ) surcharge. 30 paisa per unit would be received through the new surcharge that is likely to pull Rs 4 billion per month. The equalization surcharge is to be applied to all the consumers except Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC). EQ surcharge is being imposed in the wake of payments’ interruption. Consumers are to pay for the interest caused by the delay in liabilities to the power plants. Imposition of EQ surcharge is one of the conditionalities of International Monetary Fund (IMF). INP
