ISPRISPR’s tweet endorses Nisar’s statement: Govt spokesman

RAWALPINDI, : One million dollar question was resolved who invited army chief to play role in the solution of the prevailing political impasse after, DG ISPR Major General Saleem Bajwa tweeted on Friday evening that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif was asked by the government to play facilitative role for resolution of current impasse.

Bajwa said the decision was taken during the meeting held at the PM House on Thursday.

The tweet of the DG ISPR flashed on the social media says #COAS was asked by the Govt to play facilitative role for resolution of current impasse, in yesterday’s meeting, at #PM House

Earlier in the day heated debate was witnessed in the National Assembly on Friday over the issues of the army intervention in the political deadlock. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif flatly refused seeking army assistance for solution of the stalemate.

Soon after prime minister’s statement on floor of the house, the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr. Tahirul Qadri and later Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan vociferously denied of their role in inviting the army chief for mediation.

Later, Government Spokesperson has said that the tweet by Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) has endorsed Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan’s statement.

The spokesperson said that Nisar had clearly stated that the government had asked the Army Chief to play a facilitative role and by stating the same thing in his tweet, DG ISPR has endorsed Interior Minister’s statement.

Responding to the current statement by the media, government spokesperson said that the role of Army should not be made controversial. INP/NNI
