The former army chief said that despite difficult circumstances the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) government will complete its term. Beg was of the opinion that the position of Prime Minister has been further strengthened by the resounding victory in the Azad Jammu Kashmir elections and the failed military coup in Turkey. Commenting on the economic progress of the country the former army chief hailed the multi-billion dollar China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and said that the completion of the project will bring a change in the country’s economic situation. Beg said that the Chinese government has also hinted that CPEC is being fully backed and pursued by the ‘establishment’ in Pakistan, he also pointed out that it is the Armed Forces that will provide security for the project and revealed that the Army will also have a say in the administrative affairs of the project. Beg however warned that India is against the project and may interfere to harm its smooth implementation. Beg also hailed China’s support for military and economic projects in Pakistan and said that both India and the United States will fail in their anti-China campaign. Responding to a question by Sardar Khan Niazi, Beg said that Pakistan’s biggest problem is corruption and added that to end rigging in electoral process reforms must be carried out.
