If you are earning lakhs by making vlogs on YouTube or dancing on TikTok, then be careful! The government is now keeping an eye on your earnings too.
The budget for the financial year 2025-26 is going to be presented on June 10, and according to reports, this time a new “surprise” is being prepared for those who earn from social media in the budget. Yes, there is talk of taxing YouTubers, TikTokers and Vloggers!
Sources say that the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMAP) has proposed to impose a 3.5% tax on income earned from YouTube, TikTok and other platforms. The aim of this proposal is to bring an additional amount of Rs 52.5 billion to the government’s coffers.
Interestingly, in the past, social media was considered only a means of entertainment or expression of opinion, but now it has become a regular “earning field” and the government is weighing up ways to bring this field into the tax net as well.
According to media reports, this proposal is under serious consideration by the government, and is likely to be formally announced in the upcoming budget. So if you too are earning lakhs sitting in front of the camera, then it might be time for a reckoning!
