In light of the present political and economic unrest, Google has reminded Pakistanis that the nation’s general elections are set to take place this year.
A new Google Doodle depicts a voting box with the flag of Pakistan on it. When a user taps the doodle, a message with the text “Pakistan National Election 2023” displays.
The South Asian nation’s most recent general elections took place in 2018, during which the PTI won with help from a few allies. In April 2022, the then-joined opposition forced the PTI leader out of the prime minister’s office in a no-confidence motion.
Since then, the nation has been governed by a coalition government that is led by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PMD). On August 13 of this year, the present assembly’s term will come to an end. According to the regulations, general elections must be held within 60 days of the National Assembly’s term ending, but if the assembly is dissolved before that time, the window could be extended to 90 days.
The PTI leader abolished the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies earlier this year and called for immediate elections. Elections for the national government and provincial assemblies, on the other hand, should take place concurrently in the opinion of the ruling coalition.
The PTI chief’s proposals for immediate elections in the nation have been rebuffed by the current administration because it wants to fix the economy, which it believes has suffered because of the previous administration’s bad policies.
