Mr Parvez Rasheed is again in the news limelight and not for a good reason , as usual. The gentleman, while referring to the ouster of Nawaz Sharif and Musharraf case opines that there is a ghost who haunts Pakistan and the same ghost is behind the ouster of Nawaz Sharif. He said, “It [the ghost] is present in politicians, political minds, and some institutions.”
With a very clear reference to Ch Nisar Ali Khan , his colleague in the ruling elite, he said , “Decisions have been taken against us while the interior [minister] was in power; JITs were created and ‘Whatsapps’ [private messages] were also exchanged while the interior [minister] was there”.
This diatribe stirs some questions. We all know that the ouster of Nawaz Sharif is by no means an outcome of any intrigue or conspiracy. On the face of it, it is a lawful decision of the honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan by exercising its powers envisaged in the green book. So if you give it a bad name and call it a conspiracy of any ghost it is not statesmanship. If you get a favourable decision you are a happy man but if you get it the other way you become so hostile towards institutions that you even don’t spare the top most judicial institution of the country. Is this what we call prudence and sagacity?
If the comrades of Nawaz Sharif really have something to present in the favor and support of their conspiracy theory they should come forward and spit it out but if they have nothing to support their story they must refrain doing these tactics. Playing with the integrity of the state institution is not politics. This is not the way to steer the country out of the wood. The ghost actually hides in the contradictions of our intriguing narrative.
