SRINAGAR: Strongly condemning the arrest of Hurriyat leaders Haji Ghulam Nabi Sumji, Peer Saifullah, Hakeem Abdul Rasheed, Bilal Siddiqi, Mohammad Yaseen Attaai, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Syed Imtiyaz Hyder and dozens of other activists in the view of the scheduled by-election of the Islamabad (Anantnag) Assembly seat, Chairman Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Geelani said that these pro-freedom leaders have been arrested to stop them from visiting the Islamabad and have once again made the election a one sided game.
While reiterating his election boycott call for the scheduled by-election drama in the Islamabad, Syed Ali Geelani said that we are not against the democracy or the democratic practices but the elections which are held in Jammu & Kashmir are just the military exercises instead of a democratic process and these actions have no moral and legal credibility.
He said that we are ready to participate in that election process which is held to decide the future of Jammu & Kashmir but under the supervision of the international community and which has no interference of Indian establishment.
In a statement, the caged pro-freedom leader said that the pro-Indian political parties although demand votes from the people in the name of Electricity, better Roads and water but India misuses this vote in favour of its forced military occupation and exploits it on international forums.
He said that if these election dramas held in Jammu & Kashmir from time to time have any credibility and India believes that the Kashmiri nation vote and support India then they should have no objection in holding plebiscites here so that everything gets cleared.
Syed Ali Geelani said that the scheduled by-elections of the Islamabad assembly segment will be purely a military operation as usual and this area has been handed over to the paramilitary forces and the police who will ensure that no pro-freedom leader or activist remains out of jail during this period so that they can smoothly play this one-sided game and will obviously won it too.
The pro-Indian politicians with the backing of Indian army and the police are preparing to visit Islamabad to ask for votes from the public while as every type of opposition voices are being brutally silenced.
Syed Ali Geelani said that the Indian Supreme Court has formally passed a ruling that boycotting elections and campaigning for the same is a democratic right of every citizen and it has no legal trouble. Jammu & Kashmir is however a different world where the principles and rulings of this world does not apply and the elections which are held here are not more than a joke.
Hurriyat (G) Chairman appealed the people of Islamabad (Anantnag) not to participate in this military operation in any way and show your respect for the blood of the martyrs. He said that whoever votes commits an act of treason and his actions harm the sacred cause of the martyrs.
Syed Ali Geelani said that the election dramas in Jammu & Kashmir have although no bearing on the disputed nature and status of Kashmir but it definitely lengthens our journey to freedom and it hides the grave human rights violations in Kashmir at the hands of the Indian armed forces.
Meanwhile Hurriyat leaders Molvi Bashir Ahmad and Mohammad Ramzan Khan despite police restrictions succeeded in reaching Islamabad where they addressed people at two different locations in the Masjids and appealed them to boycott the upcoming election drama in the area. NNI
