Gang rape Christian girl succumbs to injuries

A Christian girl lost her life Thursday after being raped by a group of men in a private clinic here in Rawalpindi.

According to details, 23-yrs-old Roma Miriam, student of Community Midwife Visitors training programme at Nursing School Chitii Hattia was taken to private Hospital after being raped by the three people. Doctor told that she was conscious while brought to the emergency bleeding excessively. ‘She was put on ventilator after transfusion of 5 bottles of blood but due to sever hypovolemic shock she died’ doctor maintained.

Hospital sources revealed that one of the culprits brought Roma to Bilal Hospital, as one of the government hospital ‘Holy family’ refused to take the Medico –Legal case and registered her name as IRUM instead of Roma describing her as his wife.

SHO Police Station New Town Ijaz Shah told The Daily Patriot that Police has arrested two main accused Sohail and Jacob respectively, resident of Pindora Chungi within 24 hours. SHO confirmed that after postmortem and DNA testing, the dead body was handed over to the Family, “Police is still waiting for MLR, Postmortem and DNA reports for further proceedings” Ijaz Shah added.

High Christian leadership and civil society has strongly condemned the sad incident and demanded of the CM Shahbaz Sharif to take strict action against the culprits.

Bishop of United Pentecostal Church of Pakistan, Rt.Rev. Khalid Pervaiz while talking to Daily Patriot said that violence against women and girls is unacceptable. He called on relevant executive and judicial authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

“According to the HRCP and other national and international organizations the cases of rape registered in Punjab up till now are the highest among all provinces. Punjab is leading in rape cases and there is zero conviction, it is an ample proof of Punjab government’s bad governance.” Bishop Khalid added.
