ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Thursday the game of puppets will no more work and that the conspiracies of his political opponents will fail.
Talking to reporter in Islamabad after his appearance before the Joint Investigation Team he said he once again presented himself for the accountability as all are answerable to the law. “Documents of all assets and resources are already with the Supreme court and related institutions,” he said. The PM’s two sons Husssain and Hasan Nawaz were mentioned in the Panama documents. They have appeared several times before the JIT. The Supreme Court had ordered an investigation into their affairs by a joint team of civil and military investigation agencies.
The companies identified so far include three British Virgin Islands-based companies Nescoll Ltd, Nielsen Enterprises Ltd and Hangon Property Holdings Ltd, incorporated in 1993, 1994 and 2007 respectively. “This day is very important in the history,” Nawaz Sharif after he came out of the Judicial Academy after nearly three hours appearance. “My government and my whole family have presented ourselves for accountability,” he further said, adding that he already had floated the idea of a judicial commission on Panama Papers one year ago but the opponents had not accepted his plea.
“The issue would have been be resolved by now had the opponents not politicized my previous suggestion,” the PM said.
“I and my family will emerge victorious in the JIT and the court. I appeared before the JIT as everyone is answerable to the law and the constitution. Now nothing will be behind the curtain like the past.”
He said Panama leaks is not a corruption case as it is not related to the government’s treasury but it about the business of his family.
“Our family business is being made controversial. The opponents will fail to find out any corruption. Musharraf’s dictatorial regime had also started our accountability but he had found nothing.”
He said he and his family have repeatedly been subjected to merciless accountability but no allegation of corruption had ever been proved.
He expressed the confidence that the outcome of the ongoing inquiry would not be different as he and his family has done nothing wrong.
He said despite all conspiracies the people elected him PM three times and the people will again repose confidence in him in the next year’s general elections.
Nawaz Sharif said his govt has carried out projects of billions of rupees and that there is unprecedented investment in his govt. “Those who are hatching conspiracies will fail.”
PM did not respond to any question and left after delivering a statement. He also did not talk about the proceedings.
The JIT report will come out in days and a big court of 200 million people will also make a decision in the next year’s elections.
He said that any attempt to weaken democracy will be disastrous for the national security. NNI
