In the wake of announcement of death sentence to Indian spy Kulbhushan Yadav the diplomatic assault from Indian on Pakistan has increased. Opposition parties and television analysts have both criticized the response from Pakistani government to the Indian propaganda and threats.
Pakistan People’s Party`s senator Sherry Rehman while speaking in Senate the other day said that a serving officer of RAW had been arrested last year, but regretted that the connected matters, including his confessional statement, were not brought before the world by the government. She said Ms Swaraj was using social media, including Twitter, to create an impression as if an innocent person had been convicted. She regretted that the Indian lobby had been trying to bring Pakistan to the dock for years, but there was a silence from the Pakistan side. Such measured criticism is understandable and will help in formulating a better, more coherent foreign policy.
However, on the other hand many ‘analysts’ on television claim that the alleged soft corner of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif towards India is the reason for our lack of response on the diplomatic level to India. This sort of claim that is often repeated on television screens is not only absurd but also something that shows our inherent habit of looking everything from a narrow lens. The Prime Minister does indeed talk about good relations with neighboring countries be it India or Afghanistan but that in no way means that the Prime Minister is working against the country’s interest. In the long term it is imperative for the prosperity of the country and the region that the countries in the region have good relations. We should not give India the free hand to carry out propaganda against Pakistan but at the same time leadership of both countries must remember that animosity won’t lead us anywhere, the way forward is that of cooperation and friendship.
Positive criticism should be welcomed but serious allegations in the name of criticism must be a big no.
