ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif voiced grave worry over the destruction brought on by the recent floods in Pakistan and vowed that his administration would give the distribution of humanitarian aid to those impacted top priority.
In a meeting with UN Resident Coordinator Julien Harneis, the prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the goals and tenets of the UN Charter.
The Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, flood relief, food security, and ecosystem restoration were among the topics that were covered during the conference, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
According to PM Sharif, Pakistan has been actively participating in UN efforts, particularly in the areas of peacekeeping, humanitarian relief, combating climate change, and global collaboration for sustainable development.
The UN representative gave the Pakistani prime minister an update on the organization’s ongoing efforts there, including its work in the fields of sustainability, humanitarian aid, protection of the environment, food security, and climate change.
He also reaffirmed the UN’s continuous assistance to Pakistan in its efforts to sustainably develop and make a strong comeback from the Covid-19 pandemic.Since January 2020, Mr. Harneis has served as the UN’s resident coordinator in Pakistan.
