Flood relief operation in full swing: NDMA

ISLAMABAD, Sept 16 (DNA): Rescue and relief efforts were continuing and in full swing in the calamity hit areas of Punjab, Spokesperson of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Ahmad Kamal said on Tuesday.

Kamal said that 20.4 million people have been affected by recent floods in 38 districts of Punjab.

He said that the floods have affected 23 districts in Punjab, 10 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and five in Gilgit Baltistan.

He informed that NDMA has so far, provided 20,000 Tents, 10,000 Plastic Mats, 20,000 Blankets, 471,000 Aqua Tablets, 30 mobile Filtration Plants, 31 boats and 100 life jackets to Punjab.

Moreover, 3,000 tents, 1000 blankets and 1500 plastic mats have been provided to AJK besides 200 tents, 1000 blankets and 3 boats to ICT and 275 tents to Gilgit Baltistan, he added.

He said that National Emergency Operation Centre at NDMA was monitoring flood situation round the clock and was in constant and regular coordination with PDMA Punjab.

To a question, he said crops have also been damaged on 1.544 million acres of irrigated lands due to inundation.

He further said that the rescue and relief operations were underway in Multan, Uch-sharif, Bahawalpur and Athara Hazari to shift people to safer areas.
