Five militants killed, soldier martyred in NWA clash

INP 20-65PESHAWAR: A clash between troops and militants Friday in the troubled northwest left five militants dead and a soldier martyred, the military said.

The insurgents were neutralized in North Waziristan tribal district, where the military has been mounting an offensive against Islamist militant strongholds since June. “During a search operation five terrorists were killed in Datta Khel. One soldiers also embraced martyrdom,” Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement issued here.

For the last near nine months the army has been waging a major campaign against strongholds of Taliban and other militants in the North Waziristan tribal area, which lies close to Peshawar. Meanwhile, political administration imposed curfew for indefinite period in North Waziristan Agency. The officials have warned the tribesmen to remain in their homes.
